In a Rut or Packin’ Up?
Meet The Stuckey’s and The Bailey’s
These two couples are a microcosm of individuals and families we can relate to from our jobs, in our neighborhoods, and in our churches. They are not Fortune 500 couples and they don’t live in mansions. These families have not come from wealthy stock—no “silver spoons” are to be found in their backgrounds—and they don’t have portfolios that the rest of us might covet. In fact, they look just like you and me.
The Stuckey’s are “stuck” in a rut. They have resigned themselves to their present condition and parked their relationship at this comfortable but boring address in life. They have bought a lie: “This is as good as it will ever get.”
The Bailey’s are at what seems to them to be an insurmountable impasse. The only solution they can see is to throw in the towel—to “bail” out! They, too, have bought a lie: “There is simply no hope for our marriage!”
If you identify with one or the other of these two marriages, remember that God is in the forgiving and redeeming business. The story of the Prodigal Son in the Bible (Luke 15:11-32) gives us the picture of a Father always ready to welcome back a son or daughter gone astray. Just as there is no person who is ever beyond the realm of God’s forgiveness, there is no marriage beyond repair.
Love and Money seeks to present the brighter and dimmer dimensions of marriage, assuring you that God stands ready to apply whatever grace and forgiveness that is needed for you and your spouse to experience the joy and fulfillment he has always planned for your marriage.
